Rodney studied Chemical Engineering at Wits University, then spent two years of National Service in Pretoria, before starting work at Mintek in Randburg. He holds a BSc(Eng) degree in chemical engineering from Wits University, a BA degree in logic and philosophy from the University of South Africa, and a MSc(Eng) degree in metallurgy from Wits University. His work at Mintek involves computer modelling of high-temperature processes (pyrometallurgy). He is the author of Pyrosim software, which is in use in 22 countries around the world. He was a Visiting Professor at the Center for Pyrometallurgy, University of Missouri-Rolla, during July and August 1996, and in 2002 and 2003 has also lectured in pyrometallurgy at Murdoch University, Perth where he is an Adjunct Associate Professor.
Rodney is married to Debbie, and they have two children. David is busy completing Grade 12 at Redhill High School, and will be attending Wits University in 2007 to study Electrical (Information) Engineering. Sarah is in Grade 9 at Redhill High School. A lot of time is spent on family activities. Other current interests include digital photography, running, hiking and climbing, exploring the outdoors, reading, mathematical puzzles, and travel.
