Elbie van der Westhuizen Elbie van Coller

Elbie studied teaching at Pretoria University (Tuks), and while she was there she met Matie van Coller who she married in December 1980. Matie is also from Germiston, having attended the Afrikaans High School.

Elbie taught at Germiston High for four years after leaving university, and continued teaching at Christian Brother's College in Pretoria when they moved there. She gave up teaching in 1996 and went back to varsity to do a Masters degree in Educational and Counselling psychology.

They moved to Sydney, Australia in January 2001. Her husband works in the IT industry, and Elbie works as a School Counsellor in the New South Wales Education system and she has a private practice, specialising in Migration Adaptation.

In her spare time, she enjoys bush walking and travelling with her family. They are still exploring the nooks and crannies of Sydney. Her sons (Conrad in Year 12, and David in Year 11) are passionate cricketers and computer game addicts.

Elbie is still in contact with Heidi Ruckert who lives in Alberton, and Megan Wellbeloved came to her 40th birthday party even though they had not spoken for 20 years. Leslie Paikin lives in the next suburb. Also living in her neighbourhood are Mark Shaw-Taylor (GHS 1975) and Anne Woodward, now Iles (GHS 1973).
