Marie is a Community Health / Occupational Health Nurse. She worked for the Msunduzi Council for 13 years, and was Chief Occupational Health Nurse for 11 of those years. She has been involved with several womens organizations in KwaZulu Natal. As a member of the Midlands Women's Group she was involved in gender issues and in general capacity building for women.
Marie is married to Ted Pollett - a Social Development Specialist at International Finance Corporation, World Bank. They will be living in the USA while Ted works for IFC. They live with their niece Georgina and their two staffies Tug and Shandy.
At present Marie is sorting out her nursing registration in the USA. In January 2002, she started stained glass lessons, and now runs a small business from home, making windows, jewellery boxes, and a large range of sun catchers.
Marie and Ted both enjoy travelling. They spent several weeks in Mali eight years ago - including a desert ride on a camel to Timbuktu, and hiking through the Dogon Country.
Marie is a marathon runner (at present the running shoes are hanging up). She has run 15 Comrades Marathons and these days en route she takes a short pit stop to chat with Janet and Oliver Ludwig who stay on the route at Cowies Hill.
