Paul did the army first in 1977 and then went into Medicine, graduating in 1983. After house jobs, and senior house jobs, and a year off travelling overseas, he started Anaesthetics in December 1986 at Baragwanath Hospital and remains there to this day. He currently holds the position of Senior Consultant in the Department of Anaesthesia, and also does a limited amount of private practice in the Johannesburg area (where he occasionally bumps into Greg Christophers).
Paul never married, and lives in a flat in Parktown. He enjoys travelling when the opportunities arise. His brother emigrated to the UK, so he has visited him and his family fairly frequently and then has toured extensively in Europe, Australia, North America and Israel.
