Sharon qualified with the Charted Institute of Secretaries and opened her own Accounting practice in Boksburg. She also built her own elite creche in Bedfordview. Both of these businesses flourished, and she became very successful owning a few properties including a holiday duplex in Warner Beach.
Sharon was particularly successful in road cycling in the Womens plus 40 category, winning gold medals and her Springbok colours in the South African Cycling Championships in August 2001. She went on to compete in the World Championships in Austria held between 22 and 24 August 2001, and won trophies for finishing in the top 10 in the time trials and in the top 20 in the road race.
On 11 October 2001, Sharon was shot and killed in an attempted hijacking.
Her daughter Leanne accepted her official Springbok colours on her behalf at the end of that year.
Sharon is Grant Malyon's late sister-in-law.
