At the time of his marriage, Joseph Benson Rudman was a farmer in the Zuurberg. He bought Hoeksplaas farm (in the Somerset East District) in 1866. His son, Thomas Benjamin Rudman, took over Hoekplaas farm in 1927 (after the death of Joseph Benson Rudman). Thomas Benjamin's son, Michael Thomas Coenraad Rudman, took over the farm in 1972.
